Tequila: Effective Flu Remedy?

Everyone has their "I'm sick, and blogging in delirium" post. Well here's mine.

This is my third (third!) time being sick in the last two months, and this one just hit me like a ton of bricks. I've got a slight fever, majorly sore throat, achy body, congested nose, and have spent the entire day curled up in a fetal position in bed. Ugh. I hate hate hate being sick - not so much because of the physical discomfort, but because it reminds me that I am a human being with limitations.

My remedies of choice? Lots of water, chicken tortilla soup, sleep, Friends DVDs, Facebook poker, and this video (which my dad sent me...thanks, cool Daddy-O). Laughter is supposedly good for the body, right? Maybe the fact that I've watched this three times already will bode well for my health.

What are your best cold and flu treatments?

  2. Boo, being sick is not fun. But if you have to be sick, soup, sleep and YouTube is definitely the way to go. That video was awesome.

    Get well soon :)

  4. Anything over 50-proof is definitely a great treatment. I mean, think of how clear your head feels after a shot of 151?

    Hope you feel better!!

  5. I haven't been sick since I started working at the gym. Well, except for the time I was in Hawai'i. But I had only been working at the gym for like two weeks, at that point. Prevention is definitely the best medicine: Exercise, healthy eating, lots of sleep, a steady routine.

But once you do get sick, there's nothing that helps more than having friends who will come over and feel sorry for you. And maybe fluff your pillows and make you soup. Yes, friendship is the second-best medicine.

Don't fall for it! Tequila is eeee-vil!
Hope you feel better soon. Nothing is as miserable as being sick-- and you always forget how bad it is until you're back there again.

  7. Oh no! I hope you feel better soon.

I loved the video, lol. (Although I have sworn off tequila shots. Did about 6 of them in half an hour on halloween '06. That's the last time I ever touched tequila.)

  10. I don't have time to get sick. As a mother, I'm not allowed. (Haha) If I feel something coming on I rub my neck/throat with eucaluptus essential oil (the essential oil in Vics-only the real deal) and drink lots of fluids and attempt to get some sleep. My husband hates the smell, especially when it's time for bed, but while he and the kids were fighting this rotten cold/flu that doesn't want to let go I managed to evade it (three times). (Now, I hope I don't regret saying that.)

  12. Hope you feel better soon.

My pre-sick remedy to fight off the real hit is Emergen-C. It's just a large dose of vitamin C and some other stuff and now Costco has it! They taste good and I do believe it has helped me fight off several illnesses in the past few months.

I'm a big fan of Airborne (the pink grapefruit flavor is kind of not terrible!) and chicken soup when I'm under the weather. Hope you feel better soon :)

  17. by far, the best remedy for a cold or flu is "exercise." Alrighty, you will knock yourself out "cold," but also KO the cold or flu in the process.

  18. THANK YOU for posting that video! I've been trying to tell everyone that Tequila is good as a cold remedy, but nobody would ever listen!!

Now I don't have to feel shame about that three-quarter empty bottle in my liquor cabinet. :-P blaaaaah!

  19. Lots of water helped me! But it is hard to swallow liquid during flu!
