Extra Extra: Pirates, House Offers and Springtime

  • Last weekend we celebrated Steve's 30th birthday with a pirate party. The night involved people receiving an eye patch and clip-on earring at the door, homemade grog, rum cake, and an insane game invented by a friend called Pirate Poker. It was marrrrrvelous.
  • Speaking of parties, we may be nearing the end of the themed parties. Our friends, while they have been good sports about playing along, are bound to get tired of dressing up to humor us, and soon find normal people with whom to hang out.
  • Our recent trip to Santa Barbara was lovely. I'm convinced that it's the perfect place for a weekend getaway or to live post-retirement. We stayed at the most amazing bed & breakfast, Bath Street Inn, which was like a European grandma's house complete with incredible breakfast and afternoon tea. After a few days of relaxation, perfect weather and delicious seafood, I am already dreaming of going again.
  • We made an offer on a house! After seeing about twenty houses, we finally found one that we liked, and made an offer last night. It has everything that we're hoping for - spacious, close to work, and in a good neighborhood. I don't want to get my hopes up yet, since the house buying process is so uncertain. But if things do become more definite, I'll be sure to post the news here.
  • Tomorrow is the first official day of Spring! Sunny weather, fresh fruit, blooming flowers...don't you love it all? Celebrate by throwing on a sundress (unless you're a guy, in which case you should throw on whatever a guy might thrown on), and enjoying the start of the season.

  1. Congrats on the house offer - that's a huge deal - huge - here's hoping all goes well! And you don't have to give up on the themed parties. I mean, isn't that what children are for?! =)
