Extra Extra: Road Trip

  • Steve, Aaron and I took a road trip to Northern California this past week. As you might expect, road tripping with an infant is quite the ordeal. I think we packed more stuff for Aaron than for Steve and me combined. Stroller, car seat, Baby Bjorn, travel play yard, blankets, enough diapers and clothes to last a month (because you never know what might happen). The baby did well on the road, sleeping most of the way. We had a wonderful time visiting family and friends, but are glad to be back home.
  • It really is difficult to keep track of one's weight when the digital scale in the bathroom gives inconsistent and fluctuating numbers every time. A new scale was ordered from Amazon, and should arrive shortly. Remember back in the day when Amazon just sold books? Crazy times.
  • I currently have mosquito bites on my arms and legs that have evolved from run-of-the-mill mumps into big, red, horribly agitating welts. This never used to happen. Any allergy experts out there who can explain the new phenomenon?
  • In my most recent cooking experiment, I made Turkish Delight. Yes, the candy that C.S. Lewis made famous in his book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Steve and I have been spending many of the recent summer evenings lounging on the porch with our hookah that we purchased in Europe, and decided that Turkish Delight would make a nice addition. Recipe post to come soon.
  • I'm going to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince tomorrow. I can't even remember the last time I saw a movie in the theater. Is it weird that I'm seeing it by myself, and fantastically excited?

  1. No, it is not weird. If you really think about it, viewing films is actually a very individual experience. Seeing films in groups is just a carried over of tradition from going to see live theater.

I personally haven't seen a movie in theater by myself yet, but I hope you enjoy the peace.

  4. I'm convinced that one day, if/when we have a child, we will figure out a way to travel light. Because there's nothing more bothersome than carrying twice your weight in baby supplies! Of course, you can remind me of this if/when I have said baby and I'm lugging it all, because I can't figure out what to leave behind. hahaha.

  6. I love Amazon. 5 cent books rock my socks off. And no, it is not weird at all to see movies by yourself. It's actually quite awesome.
