Lodi, Here We Come

Today we are making the five-hour drive to Steve's hometown of Lodi, California, to spend Christmas and New Year's with Steve's family. For you Creedence fans, yes it is the Lodi from the song.

I used to sort of laugh about Lodi. Like, "Aw...the cute town of Lodi...where nothing happens." That's what people who live in Los Angeles love to do. We enjoy looking down on other places because we think our city is the best. Which is ironic, since I am actually from Kula, a teensie weensie town on Maui, Hawaii, where truly nothing happens.

Anyway. Now I love our trips to Lodi. It is refreshing to get out of the traffic-y, smoggy, busy city. Lodi is quiet and peaceful. Through the past years, Lodi has become filled with comforting memories of Thanksgivings and Christmases with family. I now look forward to being welcomed by the crackling fireplace, and the fifteen different holiday desserts my mother-in-law is guaranteed to have waiting for us. We also make it a point to visit a few of the local wineries and vineyards around Lodi, where some of the best Old Vine Zinfandel is grown. We have had a crazy month of work, house-related stuff, and general life busyness, and are very much ready for some rest and vacation.
