Tattoo

I did it. I got a tattoo!

The decision was a long time coming, and I finally concluded that I was ready. I knew what I wanted (a small tree), where I wanted it (on my left wrist), had my tattoo fund set aside, and felt emotionally and mentally prepared to make the leap.

After doing some research, I found a really great tattoo shop. With my sister-in-law in tow for moral support, I met my tattoo artist and had a little consultation with him about what I wanted. He responded with, "No problem!" Mere seconds later, he sat me in a chair, prepared me for what to expect, and instructed me to just keep breathing. The pain was significant at times, but nowhere close to the pain of fracturing my elbow in the 7th grade or giving birth to my son. It felt more like a medium-level burn. From start to finish, it took about 15 minutes.

The entire experience was great. I'm in love with my tattoo. It is simple and pretty. I purposefully have it facing me. My tree is a reminder of God, of my identity as his beloved child, and of the fruitful, hopeful, joyful life that I am invited into. Jesus states in John 15, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you abide in me, and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." The tree is a symbol for that scripture that has been an ever-present theme in my life.

  1. Hey, I think that your tattoo is beautiful, and that what it stands for is brilliant. My dad recently got a tattoo to also represent god on his left wrist to, it is barbed wire, he says that it reminds him that he is held in the binds of christ.:)
